All Binakol placemats are handwoven in Abra. Binakol is known for its strength and durability. It was used as sailcloths by Spanish galleons in the 15th century.
The “kusikus” or whirlwind pattern of Binakol is dizzying on purpose. It was meant to protect against negative energies and calm rough seas.
The embroideries of the Itneg include images which oftentimes represent nature. The kinamayan borders on these placemats symbolize the mountains and waters in Abra.
